Girly Berry singer Piya ‘Giftza’ Pongkulapa received a two-month jail term from the Phra Khanong Provincial Court on Wednesday after pleading guilty to charges of driving under the influence.
The Bangkok Post reported that the 28-eight-year-old pop singer was fined a total of THB4,500 for the offense and for driving without a license.
The original jail term was for two years but was commuted to two months because she plead guilty to the charges. She is however on probation for one year and has been ordered to personally report to authorities every three months. Giftza was likewise ordered to perform 12 hours of community service.
The singer was arrested by police officers at a traffic checkpoint at Pattanakarn road on 1.45am Tuesday. During the arrest, she had refused to take the breathalyzer test and told the police that she knew high-ranking officials that could get her out of the jam.
Giftza later apologized on Twitter for the incident and said that she regretted being a bad example.
In the meantime, RS CEO Surachai Chetchotisak said Giftza will be suspended from performances and other projects from three to six months.
